Freedom is the cornerstone of democracy and a fundamental value in people’s lives. International human rights protect the freedom of the individual. What does freedom actually mean?

Instructions for the workshop
- This workshop gives participants an introduction to the concept of “freedom”. The activities have been developed and carried out as part of the Human Rights Academy’s project “Frihet, JA!” [Freedom - Yes!]
- The workshop, consisting of two group-work tasks and an energizer, takes around three hours:
- What is freedom? Activity: Freedom-yes! (1 hour)
- Energizer: The wind is blowing
- Freedom and human rights. Activity: Which type of freedom is most important? (1.5 hours)
Freedom
After the workshop the participants shall have
- Reflected on what freedom means to them
- Acquired knowledge about how their freedom is protected by law and by human rights
Tips to facilitator
The activity can be used and as introduction to the topic “negative social control”.
